The State of Industrial Wireless 2010 - a Snapshot to the Future

While looking into the future of automation, there is a growing discussion regarding industrial wireless adoption and it’s benefit to implement.

In April 2009, Apprion and Control Magazine began a series of surveys designed to gain insight into the state of wireless application adoption within the process manufacturing industries. Included are the results based off 1200 industry professionals.

  • 64% of process manufacturing facilities surveyed now report at least one wireless application installed at their facility
  • April 2009 to April 2010 saw a 23% increase in wireless adoption and an 85% increase in those currently considering wireless adoption
  • Condition Monitoring/Asset Management application led wireless adoption in 2009 with an increase of 56%
  • Video, Communications, and Mobility are the applications driving the next wave of adoption
  • Workforce productivity and compliance with safety/security are the key drivers for adoption
  • The number one barrier to implementing wireless applications is cost/budget constraints
